Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a number to words?
Type a number such as 1024 and it is spelled out instantly as one thousand twenty-four. Enter one number per line to convert a whole list in a single pass.
Does it handle decimals and negative numbers?
Yes. Decimal places are read out digit by digit after the word point, so 3.14 becomes three point one four, and a leading minus sign is read as negative.
How large a number can it spell out?
It spells whole numbers up to 36 digits long, reaching into the decillions. It uses the short scale, where a billion is a thousand million and a trillion is a thousand billion.
Why are there no ands in the words?
The converter follows American style, which writes one hundred twenty-three rather than one hundred and twenty-three. The value is identical; only the linking word differs.
Can I convert a list of numbers at once?
Yes. Put one number on each line and every line is converted on its own, turning a column of figures into words in a single step.
